ABOUT
ABOUT JENNY
Hi, I’m Jenny Smith — Indoor Air Quality Expert, HVAC Specialist, and founder of Mould Avoidance Consultancy.
With over 45 years in the HVAC industry and a personal journey through Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS), I bring a unique mix of technical expertise and lived experience to my work. I help people across Australia—especially those dealing with mould-related illness—create safe, healthy environments where they can truly heal.
In 2014, I became very unwell and was forced to suspend all work. After months of unexplained symptoms, I was finally diagnosed with CIRS, caused by toxic mould exposure. That experience changed everything. I used my background in heating, ventilation, and air quality to take control of my environment and rebuild my health. What started as a personal mission quickly became a professional calling.
Determined to support others facing similar challenges, I became a mould-testing technician with the Australian Society of Building Biology and developed the “Glass House System”—a practical, science-backed method for managing air quality, temperature, and humidity to create clean, healing spaces. This system has since been successfully implemented in homes across the country.
Through Mould Avoidance Consultancy, I now offer virtual consultations, in-home mould assessments, and a growing suite of self-paced online courses that help clients maintain mould-free environments—from HVAC systems and vehicles to washing machines and beyond. I’ve worked with clients from all walks of life, including NASA, CSIRO, and everyday Australians who just want to feel well again.
I also contribute to national industry standards and education through my roles with:
-
ASBB – Australian Standards for Mould Working Group
-
AIRAH – Women of AIRAH & Indoor Air Quality Technical Groups
Whether you're recovering from CIRS, managing immune sensitivity, or simply want to breathe easier in your home, I'm here to help you take control of your indoor environment.
